There was no open source, no code repositories like GitHub, no knowledge hubs like StackExchange. This was pre Internet. In 1997 I was sent to England to work on a project for the oil company Halliburton. Finance weenies not geeks. We got to define Internet offerings for one of the largest telcos in Europe.
