The fact that today’s Internet bubble does not represent all companies does not disprove its existence. Ah, but today’s Internet companies have real revenue! It’s like people arguing that there’s a beautiful beach house in 2006 that represents great long-term value due to scarcity of similar property.

and his personality type seemed to be as the guy who built a wonderful, warm and fuzzy culture of purple at this new-fangled Internet kinda company. In the same way that AOL dithered and allowed us to become the Internet darlings we, too, avoided the big, company changing decisions. and I only met Jerry once. We were innovating.

The browser and thus the WWW and the first Internet businesses were born circa 1994–95 and there was a golden period where anything seemed possible. Between 2006–2008 I sold both companies that I had started and became a VC. There was no money train. It was 1991. There were startups and a software industry but barely.

I just got back from a week in Israel having spent some time in Jerusalem for an Answers board meeting and then making my way to the Ohalo Resort on the Sea of Galilee for Kinnernet 2006. So what do VCs that invest in Internet companies do? I do not think that Internet VCs are dead, but rather, need to reinvent themselves.

Neil launched an internet marketing agency called Advantage Consulting Services, together with his sister’s boyfriend. In 2006, together with Hiten Shah, Neil founded Crazy Egg, a heatmap platform for websites to use to increase their conversion rates. Neil’s next step was to go back to school. Finally, his luck began to turn.

The Bridge Between Online Services & The Internet: AOL. It was an online community like CompuServe and eventually started offering people dial-up access to the Internet for a monthly fee. AOL was controlled by one company and the Internet was distributed. AOL was closed, the Internet was open. And then came AOL.
