Stanford University has been running a clinical trial on irregular heart rhythms for Apple since 2017 with a completion date in 2019. It may be the first one built into the watch, but it’s not the first Apple Watch ECG app cleared by the FDA – AliveCor , got over-the-counter-clearance in 2014 and Cardiac Designs in 2013.)
