Nonprofit organizations exist in most communities and governments, businesses, and citizens support them in various ways for the overall benefit of the communities they serve. Because nonprofit organizations provide valuable services to communities, state and federal governments do not require nonprofit organizations to pay taxes.
You could literally get to know everyone in the local tech community at the time. Now, the community is orders of magnitude larger and the number of investors who invest here has grown significantly. Getting a job at USV was much easier then than today--but that job isn''t the same as when I had it. In other words, it''s all baked now.
I just got back from a conference put on by one of the Austin Technology Incubators funders, the Economic Development Agency, held in Albuquerque. Scott Case, CEO of Startup America , will speak about Startup America and share his views for the Austin entrepreneurial community.
The leadership centers of the microcomputer world shifted from Albuquerque to the San Fernando Valley (LA), the Bay Area, and Seattle. It’s not always easy to “break in” to a new community. Tech communities have similar pecking orders , and some are more accommodating that others. Deals were getting done there.
Our community colleges are excellent as well, including the Alamo Colleges, Austin Community College, the Dallas College and the Lone Star Community College. In San Antonio we take great pride in our diverse, artistic, affordable and culturally rich community filled with a young and burgeoning creative class workforce.
One of the most important things we do with The Lean Startup Conference is make a livestream of the plenary talks available for free to groups around the world, supporting entrepreneurship communities everywhere. The number of hosts has grown annually, and this year, we have 200+ groups joining us on Monday, December 3.
Then it’s back to Texas, Houston area this time, for the 52Wiki conference to talk Community Building. I’ll round out the year with events in San Diego, Phoenix and Albuquerque as well as playing a part in the annual HEMP Retreat with Brene Brown.
