Personally, I believe that the Semantic Web will become mainstream in the next few years (I actually have a bet on this with some college friends). After reading the wonderful blogpost on the BBC’s dynamic semantic publishing system , it reminded me that the Semantic Web has two audiences: the common web user (my mom) and developers.
So Google launched Google AdWord and AdSense based in part on technology it acquired when it bought an LA-based company called Applied Semantics. People mistook the fact that these text advertisements worked in Google to say they would work in socialnetworks. But it turns out that consumers didn’t think it sucked.
Fact is, most people advertising their services on Elance are not going to comment/markup their code enough to lend any sense of organization to the next developer who gets it. Therefore that developer will either learn the semantics of the last or simply institute her own. Semantic Webber (2010-06-21) # Great read!
