The glorious green grass of the work-from-home employee is a goal for many successful people (and not-so-successful people) and a great way to hire the best talent without having to pay to relocate them. It can be as simple as a nice dinner and a sit-down – all the way to hiring office space for a day and having a full team work there.
I could have gotten a nastygram, but instead got hired… client numero uno was in the books. Moved to Jerusalem, Israel, then Atlanta where my wife was in medical school, and finally moved back home to Detroit when we started having children, all the while building up a good book of design business for tech companies. I was smitten.
I've also been spending a lot of time on the phone with my family and my mom in Atlanta. If you make a mistake, you can make the test better or you can start a new company in the process of developing the product, and the people you hired, and the people that you trained, all those people have new skills. Progress was made.

Soon, we were getting referrals in states (outside of Phoenix, where I was at the time) and instead of telling those clients no (because I realized if I said no, they would find someone else) I flew to the different areas, reached out to my network and would hire and train sitters in those cities.
