I was invited to Finland as part of Stanford’s Engineering Technology Venture Program partnership with Aalto University. Toxic Business Press and Contradictory Government Incentives. Many founders mentioned this as a reason not to incorporate or grow their companies in Finland. Note to Finland – lighten up.

This is a philosophy that governs my daily life as well as my entrepreneurial activities. It also causes them to miss the numerous other kinds of startups that appear in less-glamorous settings: inside enterprises, non-profits, and even governments. And because both small businesses and startups have a high mortality rate, sometimes these images lead us to believe that any small business is a startup. Wrong again.
