As Finance Fridays continues, we are introducing the concept of the Cap Table. Jane and Dick, our fearless cofounders of SayAhh, have set up an accounting system and created their first set of financial statements. This week they set out to create their cap table and hire a CTO. Time to update the cap table.

Soon I’ll have spent more time on cap tables than org charts. The alignment gap between investors *starts* at the Series A, meaning earlier preferred investors cannot assume their interests are always aligned with the rest of the cap table. We hold until the founders and company exit.

I can vouch for his genuine optimism Hunter Walk: You got to work with a number of different VCs on your cap table for Anchor. Who was the best one and why was it Homebrew? Was I right?

Some of these folks are founders and CEOs, but not at high-growth tech startups. On the other hand, they could be the opposite—much more focused on near-term cash distributions than long-term equity appreciation. Role When I was a lowly Analyst at Union Square Ventures, I had so many ideas for the founders we worked with.
