Our industry just took one big step towards legitimacy with the hiring of renowned media exec Ynon Kreiz to run Maker Studios. This followed an investment late last year by Time Warner in the company in a round totaling $36 million , led by Rachel Lam , head of their investment group. Mr. T (DeStorm) vs. Mr. Rogers.

You can always tell during this discussion whether the entrepreneur has logged into their products, talked to their customers, read all the news stories and gotten all of the back channel info on the competition. When the CEO of an early-stage startup tells me that they plan to hire a COO I’m usually not interested in the next meeting.

I dont see any reason why having the team offshore is any more of a liability in this area than, say, having to do this work while selling through a channel (and hence, not having direct access to customers). I do have faith that, whatever situation you find yourself in, you can always find ways to increase the speed of iteration.
