Now that you’ve gotten to know your potential channel and customers, regardless of how much money you’re going to make, will you enjoy working with these customers for the next 3 or 4 years? It was a lifelong lesson that taught me to never start a business where you hate your customers. It never goes well.
Therefore we needed them to think and learn about two parts of a startup; 1) ideation - how to create new ideas and 2) customerdevelopment – how do they test the validity of their idea (is it the right product, customer, channel, pricing, etc.). That’s when everything changed. You need to propose disruptive solutions.

I believe it is the best introduction to CustomerDevelopment you can buy. As all of you know, Steve Blank is the progenitor of CustomerDevelopment and author of The Four Steps to the Epiphany. You can imagine how well that worked. On the minus side, that has made it a wee bit hard to understand.

Computer hardware companies were faced with their customers asking for low-cost (relatively) desktop computers they had no experience in building. Their engineering teams didn’t have the expertise using off-the-shelf microprocessors (back then “real” computer companies designed their own instruction sets and operating systems.)

The argument itself got me thinking a lot about design and its role in building products.
These specs are handed to a designer, who builds layouts and mockups of all the salient points. Then the designs are handed to a team of programmers with various specialties. The programmers keep asking for more say in the designs and direction that they work on. First, he writes it nice and clear.
So what does CTO mean, besides just "technical founder who really cant manage anyone?" If youre trying to design an architecture to maximize agility, how can that work if some people are working in TDD and others not? One of the things I found most valuable from participating in the Founder Institute was a lesson about the Golden Circle by Simon Sinek. I love Joels approach to usability, and I still recommend his free online book on UI design. Usability design is a highly iterative process, and the more customers who are involved (via in-person interview, split-test experiment, etc) the better. Do you do hallway usability testing?
