During this week's roundtable, we had Inoh Choe from SanJose, California, pitch DemoTunes, a freemium concept. How do you find co-founders who are willing to work for 18 months without getting paid? One of the discussions that ensued was about how to bootstrap a freemium venture. How long can you go without a salary?
The best place to do networking is in the Silicon Valley area because we have the best, brightest people around. Here are my observations of people trying to start up: Finding co-founders is harder than you think, there’s a reason why there are events just for finding co-founders. Yep, the best hands down.
We held our annual business plan competition at SanJose State this month and first prize was $10,000. Also, if it turns out he neglected his girlfriend too much while starting up the company, hell certainly have the opportunity to meet plenty of co-eds as he hands out flyers for the site on campus. I describe this in part as the “SocialNetwork” effect… not just the movie itself but the example of Mark Zuckerberg and many other high profile young founders as role models ( who can forget this image? ) Just a minor nitpicky point: SanJose is actually much larger than SF, in both population and land area.
