It may be hard to remember that there was a time when people in the agile software development community thought Lean Startup was incompatible with agile practices. No BS, no vanity metrics, no launches, no PR. Yes, you really can use continuous deployment – even in an SEC regulated environment.

In order to give people the data they need to apply the strategy, we were very open with our company metrics, making all reports generally available and easy to run. When you think a certain feature will give a 50% boost to a given metric, and it only eeks out a 5% boost, you cant spin that as failure. It worked incredibly well for us.

Because it has an RSS feed, one could also use "Unresolved Hoptoad Errors" as a metric influencing the continuous deployment system. This isnt Rails-specific, but we use SimpleDB for dumping a lot of important metrics data, like performance measurements, which we then turn into metrics.
