A good mentor is someone who has been part of the startup community themselves – someone who has a realistic understanding of some of the basic dos and don’ts of starting up. The rest can be outsourced to wherever (Estonia – Skype; someone mentioned digg above; you can even send this junk to India and get it with questionable quality).

And in fact, The Lean Startup is very much that. For example, Santa Clara had a community-spread case early in March. If something like that happens, you want to close everything, because it's a community spread. It's focused on how to learn as fast as possible with as little cost as possible.
