At this year’s FUND Conference in Chicago, Illinois, over 100 startups presented their early-stage companies in front of hundreds of investors and industry leaders. The startups ranked most highly by investors and startup enthusiasts in terms of scalability and longevity received votes on how well they connected with investors.

I got a random email from Brett Hagler last Thursday asking me to help his startup New Story. Our mission is to create life-changing stories that transform communities. We’re focused on funding 100 homes in 100 days in Leveque, Haiti. We are only $5,000 away from changing the life of a family in Haiti.

I landed my first international travel consulting gig with Blue Marble Dreams and traveled to Haiti to open an ice cream shop. I founded MehtaFor in 2012, and the company received two national bronze awards in 2015 for Startup of the Year. I’ve now grown it to a 6-figure business and made my first hire. Philanthropist Andrew McCubbins has developed his skills and has been directly involved in rescue missions in Haiti and Mexico. Working with GlobalAware he went to Costa Rica with his wife and children to help start a church and a community center. The organization he started, O.U.R His approach to business has been emphatic.
