Today I’d like to talk about what startup communities outside of Silicon Valley look like, how they emerge and what makes them take hold. Most of what I think about startup communities came from mentorship by Brad Feld through hours of private discussion and debate. Think Fred Wilson, Tony Hsieh or Brad Feld.
By connecting Austin, Dallas, Houston, SanAntonio and the rest of the state into a Texas S tartup Megatropolis we can unlock billions of dollars in capital and unleash thousands of diverse entrepreneurs. The time has come for the Texas startup community to band together to change the world once again.
Diverse in this context means “not a white male,” members are coworkers in our community and investments are Accelerator startups. Mellie Price , our Director of Diversity & Inclusion, helped create and host the Austin Community Inclusion Council. Do you have ideas about how we can make our community more diverse and inclusive?
Capital Factory will host community events in Dallas and Houston with Venture Capitalists from across the state Startups in Dallas will open a customer service office in SanAntonio. Entrepreneurs in SanAntonio will drive up to Austin for a day of office hours with guest mentors visiting from Silicon Valley.
They also have access to work from Capital Factory in Austin and tap into our network for introductions to investors and strategic corporate partners. Texas is also home to more than 50 Fortune 500 companies , but funding has largely been untapped due to the disconnect between the entrepreneur and investment communities throughout the state.
