The most exciting thing for me about the Detroit Marathon was that my partner Jason Mendelson completed his first marathon! I haven’t run much at all since my bike accident in Slovenia in early September and my ribs and left elbow still hurt a little. They ran with me in Detroit and it was super helpful to have them.

It started with a bike crash in Slovenia, followed by a few weeks in New York where I physically felt awful. I have extremely meaningful work with three partners who are my best friends. So – all of the stuff I’m doing around Startup Communities is extracurricular activity. And I get to define how I spend my time.

Before that I was an equal partner in Kaggle, which is a popular data science competition community. So plenty of dark bits, but also this weird discovery that you can create incredibly close connections with people that I've never met before and build a global community of people who want nothing more than to help save lives.
