Today I’d like to talk about what startup communities outside of Silicon Valley look like, how they emerge and what makes them take hold. Most of what I think about startup communities came from mentorship by Brad Feld through hours of private discussion and debate. Think Fred Wilson, Tony Hsieh or Brad Feld.
By connecting Austin, Dallas, Houston, SanAntonio and the rest of the state into a Texas S tartup Megatropolis we can unlock billions of dollars in capital and unleash thousands of diverse entrepreneurs. The time has come for the Texas startup community to band together to change the world once again.
Community-specific tax deals. Sometimes, businesses can strike up deals with their community governments for tax breaks based on their contribution to the area. For example, last year five technology firms received tax incentive extensions due to their location and efforts in an emerging tech marketplace within San Francisco.

This Tuesday we’ve chartered a Von Lane bus and are coming to SanAntonio with 24 investors, mentors and entrepreneurs to announce $100,000 just for SanAntonio! Many of the most successful entrepreneurs in Texas have banded together to give one startup from SanAntonio a $100,000 investment to try and change the world.
It dawned on me last night that as of tomorrow TechStars will have three programs running at same time with about 40 companies actively engaged in programs in Boston, New York , and SanAntonio. The final companies are being selected for The Kinect Accelerator.
And our vertical and powered by programs – Cloud (in SanAntonio with Rackspace), Microsoft Accelerator (in Seattle with Microsoft) and Nike Accelerator (in Portland with Nike) were also started from scratch.
