When you have limited distribution, the costs of distributing media are so prohibitive that only the largest of media producers (and distributors) are relevant. That couldn’t happen without the advent of lower cost production & distribution. This was how companies who produced media became big before the Internet.

Any place with a fixed cost that relies on foot traffic will come under pressure. Cut costs to stay alive for 24 months. Payroll costs/other variable costs. China and South Korea are starting their factories up again. Huge segments of the economy have shut down: travel, hospitality, restaurants.

Certainly, it’ll be the high speed of connection, but actually, it’s the 5th Generation of mobile network. It’s what will improve a lot of areas of IT business and just change our lives by means of increasing the speed, coverage, and latency of wireless/mobile networks. And my specialty was computer networks. There was one in Silicon Valley, unsurprising, one in Chicago, and there was this group out of the south of France that served all of Europe. So I joined this group called Network Solutions, we did computer networking, the predecessor to the internet. Not in Europe or South Korea.

Meanwhile, economists view 15% unemployment as an unacceptable and unsustainable cost of protecting everyone and want the economy to rapidly reopen, accepting that some additional deaths are inevitable. It takes data from South Korea, Spain, Italy and China. Pay for their computer, network, etc. seem to track these.

The other foundries are Samsung in South Korea and TSMC in Taiwan. While the first fabs cost a few million dollars, current fabs – the ones that push the bleeding edge – are over $10 billion. And the exploding cost of the fab is not the only issue with packing more transistors on chips. This is a big deal.
