On Friday, at the LA CTO Forum , I heard from a couple of CTOs having trouble finding good developers. I don’t have specific suggestions for people you can hire. I’ll leave that for another discussion as the inquiry that I keep getting is more about local talent than offshore talent. My methods are pretty vanilla.
There were a lot of questions about outsourcing/offshoring and startups. I dont see any reason why having the team offshore is any more of a liability in this area than, say, having to do this work while selling through a channel (and hence, not having direct access to customers). Talk about waste.
Design, development, and digital media shops, sometimes just a few years old, are doing bigger and bigger projects and come bearing cash flow and that scarcest resource, talent. We are a venture capital firm with deep design and development capability, not a design and development shop that sometimes takes equity as compensation.
Inevitably, the excuses begin: I need to hire people to build the product.
