There were a lot of questions about outsourcing/offshoring and startups. I dont see any reason why having the team offshore is any more of a liability in this area than, say, having to do this work while selling through a channel (and hence, not having direct access to customers). Talk about waste.

This way, employees, partners, and board members will all be on the same level with the understanding that information security plays a major role in the success of a company. Do we have offshore developers? Hire qualified internal resources or outsource as needed for the required IT positions. Do we have store fronts?

As a one-man founder bootstrapping the business, this allowed me to hire a team for much less money. Then, in the evening – as the team returned from their lunch – I would concentrate on working with them in real time over Skype on building our product. Contract Remote Teams On A Per Project Basis.

Eventually I was able to scrape up a few bucks and hired Sarah to build me a website prototype. Eventually Ill hire a software geek of my own, but right now Im doing just fine without one. In 2008 I was first time startup founder with no cash. Partnering with me at that stage was speculative at best.

Inevitably, the excuses begin: I need to hire people to build the product. In Meebo’s case, for example, I was lucky enough to partner up with Elaine and Sandy. No looking for partnerships (who’s going to partner with you anyway?). Partner up? Like I said, forget everything else and just get your product out the door.
