We didn’t know it at the time, but with that investment we had paid for front-row VIP seats to witness the origins of CustomerDevelopment and the Lean Startup. Twenty years and 100,000’s of copies of those books later, my life has fortuitously intersected with Steve Blank once again now that we’ve both become educators.

Im writing this post from an airplane headed to Washington DC, where Ill be presenting at the Government 2.0 So heres my simple question: What do folks in Washington need to know about the global community of entrepreneurs?
Often, it’s the best way to help your customers. The thinking in Washington was to take action before the banks ended up taking properties back. As foreclosures mounted during the financial crisis, the government began a series of steps to stem the tide. First came the foreclosure moratoriums.
I have deep respect and admiration for two our Colorado’s congressman – Michael Bennet (senate) and Jared Polis (house) – each which have worked very hard on immigration reform – and have learned a huge amount from them, including how hard it is to get things done in Washington.
I had the opportunity to pioneer this approach to funnel analysis at IMVU, where it became a core part of our customerdevelopment process. To promote this metrics discipline, we would present the full funnel to our board (and advisers) at the end of every development cycle. Check your assumptions, what went wrong?
