The funding round was led by 42XFund, which is based in Abu Dhabi, and participation came from a number of different investors, including Kumpulan Wang Persaraan (Diperbadankan), responsAbility, and 500 Global, amongst others. The scope of eFishery’s ambitions goes well beyond the borders of Indonesia.

Akamai just released its State Of The Internet report for the first quarter of this year, and Indonesia has gotten itself into the report for mostly the wrong reasons. That’s right: more than half of the total observed attack traffic originated from two countries – China and Indonesia – alone ( see chart on right ).

China, Russia, Brazil, India, Indonesia all meet those criteria. However, most countries don’t have sufficient population to support scale with just their local market and ultimately need to be global players – from day one. Born Global or Die Local. Identify activities/resources/partners locally and then globally.

Apple has a very limited market presence in India, due to high price and limited distribution. India was a major market for Blackberry (like Indonesia), but the youth segment abandoned RIM for Android. Other foreign OEMs, witmarkh et shares in the 4-5% range, include Sony, Nokia, LG and HTC.
