I did a presentation this week at Coloft that looked at how Non-Technical Founders can go about getting their MVP built. And the back-end is something that a non-technical founder can manage. We end up using WordPress a lot as the marketing front-end of our web sites. It had a passionate group of 50 people attending.

When I talk with early-stage companies, often the discussion starts with them asking me about Hiring a CTO for Your Startup , or Finding a Technical Cofounder for Your Startup or How to Find Programmers for Your Startup. The startup founder is definitely not ready to hire a CTO. Far from it. Great post Gabriel!

Because of IMVUs reputation, Ive also had the opportunity to serve as an advisor or board member for more than a dozen startups.

Finding Technical Cofounders Is Hard. Yesterday, Michael Pope posted an article titled Technical Cofounders Are a Myth. He argued that software engineers don’t finish what they start, and that you’re better off paying a technical person than partnering with one. Tuesday, August 17, 2010.

The negativity either impacted investment funding (venture capital fell off a cliff in 2009) or the customers they were targeted as was the case for Untitled Partners who were building a platform for fractional art ownership. Discord with a cofounder was one of the most fatal issues for a company. 3 – Not the right team.

Post launch, if you gain traction, is where the business person will help take the load off of the technical folks. The business person can take all the meetings while the technical folks work on making the product better. Ron Oh and another factor to bring reality to the table - Sometimes you find out your cofounders suck.
