If outward facing, they will attend important sales calls and speak to the technology strategy and vision. A CTO’s real value is in finding opportunities with asymmetric payoffs.
As a last disclaimer, please consult the definition of the word hacker if youre not familiar with the controversies surrounding that term.) Its common to find a hacker at the heart of almost any successful technology company. Even with the highest standards imaginable, theres no way to hire just genius hackers. Just change it.

I feel there's a risk there because who is going to be the consultant in that situation? So you need an honest person at the table with you who's not trying to just cut your consultant out of the conversation to win those dollars. So I find that's a motivating product to employees to be able to have access to that.
