The Lean LaunchPad Class. You may have read my previous posts about the Lean LaunchPad entrepreneurship class. Just a crazy idea two years ago, the class is now taught at Stanford , Berkeley, Columbia , Caltech, Princeton and for the National Science Foundation at the University of Michigan and Georgia Tech.

We have structural employment issues : The official unemployment rate in the US is hovering just below 10% but “true” unemployment is much higher when you account for those that have stopped looking or taken part-time employment and in key states like California and Michigan we’re downright hurting. Sound familiar?

I lived through the time when working in my first job in Ann Arbor Michigan we had to get out a map to find out that San Jose was not only in Puerto Rico but there was a city with that same name in California. Government and the enterprise are now followers rather than leaders. 39 years ago I got on that plane and never went back.

Over the last 6 months, we’ve been teaching a version of the Lean LaunchPad class for the National Science Foundation Innovation Corps. In an incubator, the Lean LaunchPad develops angel or venture-funded startups. Lessons Learned.

The Vietnam War had just ended and I was out of the Air Force back in college living in Ann Arbor Michigan. Civilian life was good, the government was paying my tuition and I got a college work/study job in the University of Michigan physics department. I leaned over the bridge to get a better look.
