Enter Competitions and Incubators. Things like winning startup competitions, getting selected to a startup incubator, partnering with a large company, are all good ways to show traction and some proof that you’re creating value. Social networking is so last year. Solve a Real World Problem.

Sometimes, Ill use LinkedIn to contact my network, but mostly I still just go to their profile and email them. When I recently was looking to find people who had experience with using social networks to reach people for what might be considered guerilla marketing efforts, again LinkedIn worked great.

We made clear that this class wasn’t an incubator. JointBuy allows buyers to start a new deal on any available product and share the idea with others through existing social networking sites. We tried to weed out those that were unsure why they were there as well as those trying to build yet another fad of the week web site.

This has led to the creation of incubators, accelerators and seed funds. The movie, “The Social Network” might have had more of an impact on creating future entrepreneurs than any other event of the past 5 years.
