I just had an all-too common conversation with the founder of a startup who had spent more than a year working with a softwaredevelopment company who had produced a mess. The mess really comes from a developer who was willing to get started on a product that was not fully thought out. What’s different, special here?
There's an old adage in softwaredevelopment that I refer to all the time: The first 90% of development takes 90% of the time. I used this when I taught software engineering. And I use it all the time now when I get the kind of message that I received: I'm looking for a web developer to continue work on my website.
There’s quite a bit of truth to what Mark is saying about startup softwaredevelopers, but my guess is that there’s another reason that it seems harder to find developers in this context. Second, there’s this funny perception that the cost of softwaredevelopment have been dramatically changed in the past few years.
Examples might be a recommendation engine, search engine, matching engine or something with a complex interface. We needed the matching algorithm. Again, putting something down on paper (wireframes, graphic comps) and getting feedback from potential users can tell you most of what you would learn from a working MVP.
The challenge is to recognize and recruit that ideal partner match early with minimal cost and risk. If both of you are experts at softwaredevelopment, even though one loves design and the other loves coding, that still won’t get the marketing done. Look at the big picture first of development, finance, and marketing/sales.
Labor rates are lower in some countries, but culture and language match are the real keys to productivity. I’ll outsource softwaredevelopment, since I don’t understand it.” Hire and train your own managers for internal and external work projects. With the high-speed Internet, our workers can be anywhere in the world.”
Code Collaborator is tool which helps softwaredevelopers review each other’s work, just like an editor of a book. So the economics are obvious: If two developers would each normally spend an average of 30 minutes on a code review, once a day, that’s 20 hours of total time in a business-month. And we did.

All you old softwaredevelopment types will recognize the analogy to the traditional two year “waterfall model” of softwaredevelopment, which has been totally replaced with the Agile iterative methodology. Big bang product launches are the domain of big enterprises, and you can never match their clout and budget.

Where’s the mystery (see Matching Algorithm )? Team – is there or will there be multiple segments in the development team? If so, are specific softwaredevelopment processes necessary? Do you have any specific deals done that are a basis of this? Where are you today and what's happening right now? Other types of users?
Match your office, facilities and computer equipment to the size of the staff you have today, and intend to have in the next six months. For example, a softwaredevelopment startup raising $250,000 from angel investors better be able to operate on $25,000 per month. Getting a sales contract before manufacturing inventory.

While most of the early attention in a startup is paid to finding product market fit ( the match between value proposition and customer segment on the right-side of the canvas) it’s the left side of the canvas that will tell you what your founding team should look like.
But OpenAI (the company that developed ChatGPT) is letting ChatGPT reach out and interact with other applications through an API (an Application Programming Interface.)

A couple of things I should add - Greg didnt mention the technical challenges they had (scalable complex matching algorithm) and the issues they had with an initial developer.
